August Eclipse Season: The Courage to Shine & the Wisdom to Release

Lately, I've been reflecting on the polarity of the August eclipses. This month brings us a powerful dance between fire and water, beginning and ending, self-expression and surrender. The month opened with a New Moon Solar Eclipse in Leo on the 12th, inviting us to turn toward the heart and ask what is ready to be born through us. Leo reminds us that we are not here merely to exist—we are here to create, to love, to play, to express, and to let our unique light shine. A solar eclipse can feel like a doorway into a new chapter, making this a potent time to consider what we are ready to embody and what our hearts are asking us to courageously pursue. The question of Leo is not simply “What do I want?” but “What would I create if I was not afraid of being seen?”

On August 27th, the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Pisces brings us to the other side of that polarity. Where Leo declares, “I am,” Pisces whispers, “I release.” Pisces is the final sign of the zodiac, carrying the energy of completion, surrender, compassion, intuition, and the dissolution of what has reached the end of its natural cycle. This lunar eclipse invites us to loosen our grip on what no longer serves us—old identities, expectations, fears—and trust that releasing something does not mean losing it. Sometimes it means allowing it to return to the great waters from which something new can eventually emerge.

Together, these eclipses offer us a beautiful spiritual rhythm: create and release, express and surrender, shine and soften. The Leo eclipse asks us to step more fully into our own light, while the Pisces eclipse asks us to remember that we are part of something far greater than ourselves. One says, “Let your light shine,” while the other reminds us, “You do not have to control where that light leads.” Perhaps the magic of this eclipse season lies in learning that both can be true: we can boldly become who we are meant to be while still surrendering the need to know exactly what comes next. In my belief system, the journey is more important than the destination.
