Embracing the Mundane

A couple of days ago, I read a book in which a woman leaving a sabbat celebration lamented having to return to her “mundane” life.

That sentiment does not resonate with me.

Personally, I believe every day is sacred. I don’t save connection to the divine, psychic work, or the craft for special occasions. Spirituality, for me, lives in the rhythm of daily life.

Each morning I step outside to pray to the gods. I feel their presence. I rejoice in the wonder of the Middle World—the wind moving through the trees, the birds calling to one another, the rain falling on the earth. Sometimes I sense the ares—air spirits—moving past on the breeze, or hear the forest spirits rushing quietly through the woods. These moments are not grand rituals or dramatic workings. They are small, steady reminders that the sacred is never far away.

I’ve never considered myself a practitioner of “high magic.” I’ve always felt more drawn to the quiet power of folk traditions. Every morning I enchant my tea with the intention for the day ahead. Green Magic, Italian Witchcraft, Practical Magic, Rootworker, and the Witches’ Wheel have been some of my favorite classes to explore. They are approachable, practical, and meant to live alongside ordinary life. When woven into daily routines, these traditions transform the so-called mundane into something meaningful and alive.

Perhaps the real magic isn’t waiting for the next sabbat, ritual, or perfect moment. Perhaps it’s already here, in the ordinary hours of our lives. My challenge to you is a gentle one: look for the sacred in your everyday rhythms. Bless your morning drink, listen for the spirits in the wind, speak a prayer beneath the open sky. You may find that when you honor the mundane, it quietly becomes magical.
